Master of Engineering Program in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering - Program Requirements
In order to receive a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the following requirements must be met:
- A minimum of 30 credit hours of technical graduate coursework (500 level or above), twenty-eight of which must be taken for a letter grade. Courses in the College of Engineering as well as those in mathematics, physics, and other sciences are generally considered technical courses. Please consult with your academic advisor.
- A minimum of 12 credit hours (not including seminar courses or MAE 690) of coursework in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering or closely related field.
- A design project (usually taken under MAE 690) of at least 4 and not more than 8 credits resulting in a written report. Meeting this requirement involves receiving a grade for the course, submitting an abstract signed by the project advisor to the Graduate Field Office, and two bound copies of the report; one to the Graduate Field Office and the other to the project advisor.
- An approved Program of Courses. Courses taken must match the “Program of Courses” approved by your academic advisor, project advisor, and Chairperson of the MEng. Committee. Unapproved courses and/or unapproved changes will not count toward graduation requirements. The “Program of Courses” form is filed in the Graduate Field Office at the beginning of your program and any changes made to it must be initialed by both advisors and the chair. The completed and approved “Program of Courses” must be submitted to the Graduate Field Office by the end of the third week of classes (the last add date).
- A minimum cumulative MEng. GPA of 2.5.
- No grade below a C-.
- One residence unit (earned by completing one full-time semester of satisfactory work while in residence).
In addition the School of Graduate studies requires
- You must submit a final transcript noting the awarding of your bachelors degree. If your degree was already noted on the transcript you submitted with your application, nothing further is required.
- You must submit a degree information card. Hard copies of this form are available in the Graduate Field Office. It must be typed and submitted to the Graduate School, 143 Caldwell Hall. You may elect to fill out the form on-line (http://www.gradschool.cornell.edu/pubs_and_forms/forms/pro_degree_kiosk.pdf) and print if off on green card stock—also available in the Graduate Field Office.
